Starting new habits for the school year is not just for students. It is a great time, with a lot of momentum, for many to take advantage and set a new routine to reclaim your health, your Vitality and have an amazing year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.\u00a0 \u00a0Get Organized.<\/strong>\u00a0Making a plan for what you\u2019re going to do and when you\u2019re going to do it will make sure you\u2019re always ahead of the curve \u2013 literally.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2.\u00a0 \u00a0Get Sleep.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>A healthy and productive day begins after a good night\u2019s sleep. The\u00a0American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends<\/a>\u00a0preschoolers receive 10-13 hours of sleep each night (including naps), grade schoolers receive 9-12 hours of sleep each night and teenagers receive 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Adults need to sleep 7-8 hrs. If you or your child doesn\u2019t get enough sleep, they\u2019ll have a hard time concentrating and engaging at school\/work. Establish and stick to a bedtime that ensures all will be well rested come morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3.\u00a0 \u00a0Eat Breakfast.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that\u2019s because eating a nutritious breakfast provides fuel for the day ahead. According to\u00a0Consumer Reports<\/a>, a 2013 analysis of 36 studies published in the journal Frontiers Neuroscience found that regular breakfast eaters are more likely to exhibit \u201con-task behavior,\u201d such as paying attention, being alert and concentrating in class. Just make healthy choices and stay away from the sugar.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

4.\u00a0 \u00a0Pack a Healthy Lunch.\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>Breakfast is important, and a healthy lunch is important, too. Prepare your lunches the night before school (or have them pack their own lunch if they\u2019re old enough) so you aren\u2019t scrambling to find a nutritious meal to send them to school with as you usher them out the door. Even if your child is attending school remotely from home, it\u2019s still a good idea to pack their lunch as if they were eating at school. The practice will keep your day on track and will ensure you\u2019re not scrambling come lunchtime.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

5.\u00a0 \u00a0Make time for rest and fun activities<\/strong>. <\/strong><\/strong>All work and no play\u2026 you know the rest. Don\u2019t forget to enjoy life and reward yourself when you deserve it. Successes need to be celebrated and by having balance in life makes it easier and more enjoyable to maintain a successful routine.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

6.\u00a0 \u00a0Use the power of repetition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>There is nothing like repetition to get good at something. To master something, you\u2019ll have to experiment and repeat, just as the Wright Brothers did, time and again, before getting that first flight.\u00a0 And remember that there has to be a bit of a \u201cstretch\u201d to improve each time\u2014even if simply doing it today is the stretch you make. If something is important to you, make a commitment to repeatedly spend time on it\u2014every day, every week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

7.\u00a0 \u00a0Schedule regular appointments with your favorite holistic health care professional. \u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>A balanced and well-functioning body and mind will improve your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.\u00a0 Some self-care is good for everyone, (remember #5 and 6 above) and as you feel better you will more easily create your power routine.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
